SleepWiseHealth Head ‘Sleepologist‘
Irene Smalls holds a Master’s degree in Behavioral Science from New York University and has over 25 years of experience presenting to both children and adults. SleepWiseHealth is an extension of Irene’s extensive work in brain science-based literacy, also known as Literacy + Exercise = Literacise. www.literacise.com
Smalls’ research highlights the importance of multi-sensory, experiential learning in reading instruction and reveals that sleep plays a vital role in the learning process. We learn while we sleep. Information processed by the brain during the day is stored in short-term memory, which has limited capacity and fades over time. During sleep, the brain transforms short-term memory into long-term memory, solidifying learning and retention.
Smalls has completed training and earned certifications in sleep science from the Transformation Academy, the Institute of Pediatric Sleep and Parenting, the Integrative Adult Sleep Coach Program at the International Parenting and Health Institute, and Stellar Sleep. While Smalls is not a somnologist—a medical professional specializing in diagnosing and treating sleep disorders—she is trained to address non-clinical sleep issues and challenges effectively.
